Born 1937 in Athens

Zalloni studied industrial design and applied arts under professor Oswal Haerdtl at the Academy für Kunst in Vienna. In 1960, he took over for Frierich Düpman at Steuler, first sharing a design studio with Charles Joosten and getting his own design studio and the chance to design independently in 1961. His first important design was the Continua series followed by the extremely successful Zyklon and distinctive Facette. Cari´s time at Steuler brought great designs but also conflict since the company usually wanted to produce the designs as they were, while Cari often wanted to pursue the designs further. Cari Zalloni stayed with Steuler until 1976 but did freelance work for Altenkunstadt Karl Nehmzow bewteen 1969-71, producing items with clean lines and geometric look. He also did other freelance work in both pottery and glass, including work for Rosenthal and WMF. After leaving Steuler, Zalloni began his own company, CAZAL, where he continues to design and make designer eyeware.
