Kurt Tschörner
Born 1912 in Bömisch Kamnitz Died 1987 In Rheinbach.
Tschörner’s father ran a glass painting and artistic glass company and taught his son the trade while he was a schoolboy. Tschörner went on to study at the Fachschule für Glasindustrie in Steinschönau as well as the Kunstgewerbliche Fachschule in Gablonz between 1927-30 before returning to work in his father’s factory. In 1948, Tschörner went back to the school in Steinschönau to teach glass painting. He did freelance design for Ruscha in the early to mid 1950’s, working mostly with Cilli Wörsdorfer and Otto Gerharz. Shapes 313 and 315 are best known to collectors, with shape 313 an amazingly long running form. The relationship with Gerharz continued when Gerharz opened his own studio with Tschörner designing the forms. Tschörner retired from the Fachschule für Glasindustrie in 1975.
