CAMBRIDGE GLASS FAIR - Sunday 27th September 2009

Post by Oxbridge Fairs on Fri Aug 21, 2009 5:15 pm

The next Cambridge Glass Fair will take place on Sunday 27th September 2009 at Chilford Hall Vineyard, Linton, Cambs CB21 4LE. The fair is open from 10.30am-4.00pm and admission is £5 (accompanied children under 16 free).

'300 years of collectable glass in one day.'

This is one of the UK's leading specialist glass fairs with around 100 exhibitors selling fine quality antique and decorative glass from all periods including glass artists showing their own work in the dedicated Contemporary Hall. The foyer exhibition for this fair will be a private loan collection of 17th and 18th century English and Continental goblets and will include some rare examples. Whitefriars.com will be exhibiting a superb collection of Whitefriars white cloudy lattice pieces and the Paperweight Collectors Circle will once more be holding an ID Clinic where you will be able to bring along any weights or related items for help with identification, value etc. There will also be a demonstration of the technique of lampworking by beadmaker Francesca Cerreta.
Refreshments can be found in the Great Hall. Take a break and have a light lunch, indulge yourself with a delicious cream scone or maybe sample a glass of one of Chilford Hall's prize-winning wines. Lunchtime music will be provided by Gentle Jazz. A great day out at a superb venue.
Parking is free with up to 1000 spaces. For further information please telephone 07887 762 872 or visit www.cambridgeglassfair.com

Visitors to the fair can expect to see the usual exciting array of glass from our regular dealers. In addition, we are looking forward to welcoming some new exhibitors to the fair and welcoming back several familiar faces. These will include Patricia Hilton-Robinson, Bob Hall, Ruth Lyne, Iris Houghton, Paul Weeks, Gary Phillips and Dave Hornik-Unger.

Andy McConnell, the Antiques Roadshow glass expert, will also be in attendance, as will Kevin Graham who will be there to promote the Pottery and Glass Forum.

The full exhibitor list can be found on the fair's website.

In all, whatever your interest in glass, this is an occasion not to be missed.

Hope to see you there.

The fair was very successful with the highest ever visitor attendance at the September event. The foyer exhibition of rare 17th and 18th century goblets was deservedly extremely well received and Graham Hudson's display of cloudy white lattice pieces for Whitefriar's.com was superb.

Many exhibitors reported good sales with several having their best-ever fairs at any venue which is so encouraging in today's difficult trading climate.

The lampworking demonstration by contemporary beadmaker Francesca Cerreta proved popular as did her fascinating, quirky and inventive jewellery.

Tolly Nason, who has designed our next postcard featuring some of her glass, brought examples from her fabulous 'Seeing the Light: Finch by Finch' exhibition which took place recently at the Zoological Museum in Cambridge as part of the Darwin Anniversary Festival. She also reported having a very good day.

All-in-all, with the fine weather and a generally busy and exciting atmosphere, it was a very enjoyable and rewarding event.

Our thanks, as always, go to all of our exhibitors, suppliers and, of course, our all-important visitors.

The next Cambridge Glass Fair takes place on February 28th.

Paul.
